Routines

It is important to provide your child with a healthy hearty snack. Milk can be purchased for 50 cents at snack time. Birthdays are always celebrated and you are welcome to send in birthday treats for the class. Something that is easy to pass out individually is encouraged. Each child has been given a mailbox in the classroom that will hold their homework folder. Each night the children are to bring their homework folder home. Inside there will be homework assignments as well as completed assignments and notices for you. It is important that the folder is looked at every night by you and your child. Homework will not be given on the first day of school.

Homework

Homework will consist of math pages that review the lesson that was taught that day. At the beginning of each math unit, students will bring home a parent letter that will be on blue paper. This parent letter will have information about what your child is learning in math. It also has answers to some of the math problems in case you and your child are unsure of the answer. Students will also be participating in Book It. See Book It for more information.

Spelling
Your child's spelling words will be sent home every Monday or the first day of the week. This list is to be reviewed by your child to prepare for a spelling test on Friday. It is a great opportunity for you and your child to work together on mastering the words if time allows you to do so. There won't be a spelling list for weeks that are three days or less.

Book It

At the beginning of each month students will be given a reading log for that month. Students will color in one picture for each day that they read for 15 minutes. Reading for homework counts. Students will need to bring in the reading log at the end of each month. Students who complete each month's reading log will participate in a ice cream sundae party to celebrate their excellence in reading.

Wish List

I am always in need for tennis balls for the bottom of the chairs in the classroom. Gift certificates to Wet Pets are a great help to keep the salt water tank full of creatures.
